  • Qualifications

    BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree: Professional Engineering, to be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; OR (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
    The Basic Requirement is qualifying for GS-5 positions.

    GS-07 : Must have at least 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05 or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of creditable specialized experience includes assisting in performing professional engineering and scientific work involving chemical processes utilized by industries and scientific technologies to produce useful products and systems.

    GS-09: Must have at least 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07 or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of creditable specialized experience include performing the less complex tasks of the position independently and receives specific instructional guidance in the accomplishment of the more difficult assignments for the purpose of broadening experience toward the full performance of the complete range of work.

    GS-11 : Must have at least 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09 or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of creditable specialized experience includes independently performing professional engineering and scientific work involving chemical processes utilized by industries and scientific technologies to produce useful products and systems.

    GS-12: Must have at least 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11 or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Example of creditable specialized experience include providing expertise on projects pertaining to the development, design, modification, evaluation, implementation and integration of chemical cleaning, abrasive blasting, and mass finishing/cleaning processes and systems.

    GS-13: Must have at least 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12 or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Specialized experience may have been demonstrated by performing duties such as: performing integration and test specialist work for ground systems and associated support equipment in the application of nuclear hardness, advance theories, and engineering principles to resolve controversial engineering problems; providing support of systems engineering, technical and logistical activities performed in the systems engineering integration and test section; evaluating trade design studies and test analysis for nuclear environments; supporting the development of subsystem requirements including nuclear environments, and the procedures necessary to qualify high reliability and precision replacement components, both mechanical and electrical; and preparing engineering inputs of reviews, analysis and evaluations.

    GS-14: Must have at least 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-13 or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Specialized experience may have been demonstrated by performing duties such as: performing integration and test specialist work for ground systems and associated support equipment in the application of nuclear hardness, advance theories, and engineering principles to resolve controversial engineering problems; providing support of systems engineering, technical and logistical activities performed in the systems engineering integration and test section; evaluating trade design studies and test analysis for nuclear environments; supporting the development of subsystem requirements including nuclear environments, and the procedures necessary to qualify high reliability and precision replacement components, both mechanical and electrical; and preparing engineering inputs of reviews, analysis and evaluations.

    GS-15 : Must have at least 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-14 or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Specialized experience may have been demonstrated by performing duties such as: performing integration and test specialist work for ground systems and associated support equipment in the application of nuclear hardness, advance theories, and engineering principles to resolve controversial engineering problems; providing support of systems engineering, technical and logistical activities performed in the systems engineering integration and test section; evaluating trade design studies and test analysis for nuclear environments; supporting the development of subsystem requirements including nuclear environments, and the procedures necessary to qualify high reliability and precision replacement components, both mechanical and electrical; and preparing engineering inputs of reviews, analysis and evaluations.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES ( KSAs ): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
    1. Knowledge of professional chemical engineering theories, concepts, principles, techniques, and practices.
    2. Knowledge of chemical engineering issues and best practices.
