The Automotive Sales Engineer will be a part of the Electronic Materials (EM) Business Unit (BU). The EM BU is one of the most lucrative and highest growth areas within Momentive. EM covers a broad range of markets including Optical Bonding for video displays, Aerospace/Aviation/Defense, Consumer Electronics, and Automotive. Momentive is looking for a candidate who wants to be on the cutting edge of technology with our new material developments of liquid dispensed formulated silicone. The products that the Electronics Materials BU offers allow our customers to solve their technical challenges relating to electronics protection, electronics cooling, and bonding and thus enabling customers to design parts and develop new technologies that may not have been possible in the past.
The Automotive sub segment of Electronic Materials is one of the focus areas for growth in the Americas region. This positions focus is to develop relationships with key OEMs, tier one suppliers, and sub tier manufacturers, and to drive growth by recommending Momentive silicone solutions while also identifying unmet material needs in our portfolio for development. With vehicle electrification and safety changes that are rapidly occurring in the automotive industry, the need to specify in Momentives dispensed silicone materials on these emerging programs is crucial to our short and long term success. The main focus areas where our materials are used in the automotive sector: Lithium Ion batteries, thermal management applications, enclosure sealing - cured in place gasket(CIPG)/formed in place gasket (FIPG), sensors, and electro-mechanical devices. This role will be on the cutting edge of these next generation developments that will change the automotive landscape for years to come.
Position would work remotely in any location west of the Mississippi and ideally located near a major airport. Prefer California or west of Colorado.
Day to day job description:
Create sales and identify new opportunities within the Automotive industry.
Utilize knowledge of existing OEMs/Tiers and leverage existing or new relationships to identify challenges that Momentives dispensed silicone can solve (electronics protection, thermal management, chemical resistance, sealing, shielding, bonding, etc).
Work with OEM/Tier suppliers to spec in, qualify, and negotiate commercial terms including pricing.
Ability to interface with customers to determine if a relevant existing grade solves their technical challenges or drive new products by working with Global Automotive Market Segment Leader.
Deliver technical presentations directly to key customers and work to promote our existing and new materials with our marketing team.
Attend tradeshows to promote our materials and identify new accounts that may have a need for our solutions.
Meet business growth expectations by developing new accounts and/or increasing business with existing accounts.
Provide technical support to new and existing customers and become a trusted advisor that these design engineers come to rely on for solutions to their design challenges.
Leverage and work with our Distribution network to promote sales of our products and be the technical expert when our distribution partners need technical assistance at an OEM/Tier
Administrative responsibilities will include entering sample requests, working with Product Management to set pricing, and utilizing CRM (SalesForce.com) to capture leads/opportunities and call reports. Existing knowledge of Salesforce and SAP is a benefit.
Lead programs and work independently from remote office with ability to domestically and internationally travel up to 50% of time.
US Permanent Resident or US Citizen required
Minimum 5 yrs. experience working within the Automotive segment preferred.
Minimum 5 yrs. experience in a material science or silicone RTV role preferred.
Sales experience with electronic applications or material specification background. Specific experience with design or selling of adhesives, sealants, conformal coating, potting/encapsulants, vibration dampening, shielding, and thermal management is preferred.
