SUMMARY:

Performs laboratory duties in weighing, mixing, physical testing and scaling up formulations of existing, improved and new products. Assists in cost savings, manufacturing, and finished goods troubleshooting. Supports and/or completes laboratory tasks to meet R & D and division goals. Collaborates with other departments in support of ITW Polymers Adhesives strategic growth initiatives and ITW Enterprise Strategy.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • As directed by the chemist(s), prepares laboratory batches & compounds utilizing scientific principles and methods.

  • Orders and maintains all laboratory supplies including reagents, chemicals, testing substrates and instruments tools/supplies.

  • Under supervision, carries out safe storage, handling, labeling and identification of all laboratory chemicals.

  • Operates testing instruments per manufacturer s instructions to generate mechanical and analytical data as determined by industry standards.

  • Schedules, coordinates, and maintains all laboratory preventative maintenance and calibrations.

  • Adjusts and creates standard and non-standard test programs in mechanical and analytical laboratory instruments.

  • QC s lab batches before they are packaged off to ensure they meet specifications.

  • Runs experiments and records data preformed on manufactured batches.

  • Provides a weekly inspection audit report of the R&D lab for safety and organization.

  • Promotes, supports and adheres to all safety, environmental and quality related policies and procedures.

  • Maintains all Laboratory SDSs.


Minimum Associates Degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, polymer engineering, or equivalent discipline and 3 or more years of related industry work experience.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

Highly skilled in operating all laboratory instrumentation.

Good at observing changes and drawing logical conclusions.

General understanding of ITW business philosophies and strategies.

Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office.

Experience with PC-integrated lab instruments & controls.

Strong communication, organizational and investigative skills.

Ability to effectively multitask and drive assignments to completion.

Grasp of fundamental lab practices, project organization and understanding of material relationships.
