Job Description and Duties
Under the general direction of the Branch Chief, Asset Management and Environmental Compliance in the Office of Maintenance Stormwater & Environmental Compliance (OMSWEC), a Senior Transportation Engineer (Supervisory), the incumbent is the Division of Maintenance Geographic Information System (GIS) Coordinator and is responsible for the continued development and maintenance of the Division's GIS Program. The incumbent is expected to perform in lead capacity to design and test complex spatial databases and develop high-end GIS applications for both the Division and Department use. The incumbent takes the lead in designing, developing, testing, managing, and maintaining GIS databases and researching and implementing methods of linking to existing databases within the Department. The GIS Coordinator represents the Division on the GIS User Steering Committee and any GIS technical working groups on matters relating to the Department's Enterprise GIS efforts. The GIS Coordinator is the technical support liaison and promotes knowledge and usage of GIS technology. The incumbent is expected to work cooperatively with other stakeholders to instruct and oversee the development of GIS desktop application and Web based GIS applications within the Division of Maintenance. The incumbent often works with sensitive and confidential data that is used for analyses and products for the highest levels in the Department involving policy and strategic matters.
The incumbent leads the development and implementation of enterprise level desktop and web-based GIS applications perform spatial analysis, using GIS methodologies and techniques, to streamline the processes. The incumbent researches complex technical issues such as: approved access to the site (internal only or broad external access), hardware and software requirements, different programming languages required for software and the rapidly changing web-based solutions, and is responsible for ensuring that proposed solutions comply with the Department's standard for GIS framework model and operation plan.

One of the tasks will be to develop training documents and lead/assist training sessions for staff that have limited GIS experience. Share your experience, speaking in front of groups and training others.
