About The Center:

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Community Center (The Center) has been a comprehensive resource and refuge for LGBTQ individuals and communities in New York City since 1983. With our doors open 365 days a year, we welcome 6,000 unique visitors weekly, providing: health and wellness programs; career development; family and parenthood support services; and arts and cultural events.?

About The Opportunity:

Building on nearly four decades of responsively supporting LGBTQ New Yorkers, the Chief Program Officer will set the programmatic vision and model for how we deepen and expand our impact on the health and wellbeing of our community.?

?

With an emphasis on relationship building and collaboration both internally and externally, and program design, implementation, and outcomes, the CPO will lead, inspire, and develop a large and diverse team of approximately 60 people to execute this vision. The CPO will accomplish this work by engaging the program team and community to translate ambitious goals into operations and tactics.?

?

An expert in team leadership, management, program design, and execution, the CPO will report to the Executive Director. This individual will serve as an integral member of the Executive Team, playing a key role in driving the strategy, impact, and growth of the organization.??

How The CPO Will Be Measured:

  • Leadership: Serve as a thought partner and member of the executive leadership team and lead, inspire, and develop a diverse program team to implement the model that achieves desired community outcomes?
  • Team Management: Effectively translate strategy into goals and tactics for a large team and support and hold the team accountable for achieving those goals
  • Program Model & Vision: Dovetailing with the strategic planning process, develop a clear, cohesive program model that defines how The Center will impact its community around race, gender, economic, and health disparities
  • Program Evaluation: Evaluate and build on the 2019 evaluation of programs to determine the optimal team structure, services, and programs to best serve the community?
  • Metrics and Outcomes: Establish measurable outcomes and goals for staff and programs and achieve those objectives while ensuring programs meet budgetary, regulatory, and funder requirements?
  • Relationships: Build trusting, collaborative relationships with Center staff, engaging them in program vision and strategy; build relationships with the community so that program design is directly aligned with community needs
  • Strategic Responsiveness: Through nuanced understanding of the sector, determine risks and opportunities in the landscape and develop strategies for addressing?

Qualifications:

  • ?Demonstrated commitment to The Center?s mission to support and empower historically oppressed communities, with specific track record working in service of the LGBTQ community
  • ?A minimum of 10 years? leadership experience in program design, development, and implementation required; specific experience in running large/multi-service community model preferred
  • Highly effective and dedicated team manager able to motivate, develop, and empower large, diverse teams to execute plans and achieve outcomes
  • Ability to translate program strategy into program operations and team and individual goals?
  • Passionate relationship builder who inspires trust and collaboration across all levels of an organization, including with staff, funders, the Board, and the community The Center serves
  • Significant understanding of the issues, needs, and interests of the LGBTQ community, including knowledge of the spectrum of gender identity and expression
  • Demonstrated ability to complete thoughtful and articulate analysis of structural and institutional racism and bias, and gender identity and bias, in consideration of the impacts and outcomes in the decision-making process throughout the organization
  • Experience centering the voices of the historically oppressed in programmatic design and delivery work
  • Experience publicly representing the programs of an organization to external stakeholders
  • Ability to develop strategic responses and/or partnerships to respond to the needs of participants and shifts in the external landscape
  • BA required, MA preferred (MPA, MSW, etc) or equivalent combination of education and experience;?clinical experience or experience managing clinicians a plus

The Center was born of community activism in response to the AIDS epidemic, ensuring a place for LGBTQ people to access information, care, and support that they were not receiving elsewhere. We opened in 1983 to help people who had doors constantly closed in their faces, ostracized by family, friends, and shunned by the general society.
